Almoner reaches new heights

Sunday 15th August 2021, was a very special day for Lodge Almoner Tim Walton. Tim was celebrating his Birthday and the completion of a charity challenge of epic proportions.

Tim had agreed to undertake a skydive from 15,000 feet to raise substantial support for a charity called Mind. Mind provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.

Tim had narrowly escaped a very serious accident on 29th October 2011 when he tumbled down the stairs and sustained a severe brain trauma causing a double subdural haematoma. He remained in a coma for some three days at Preston Royal Infirmary. After surgery, the surgeon commented that he had ‘done his bit and the rest was now down to Tim’.

As one might imagine, this was a very distressing time for Tim’s family. Fortunately, Tim regained consciousness although his ability to speak and walk had gone. After a prolonged period of recuperation and rehabilitation, Tim returned to freemasonry in the second half of 2012.

It goes without saying that we are all immensely proud of Tim, not just for his bravery to jump out of a plane but for his fantastic work as Lodge Almoner where he always goes that extra mile to help others in need.
